Are you pleased with everything you've done in your life? Aren't there a few things you think you did wrong or that you could improve upon? That's what I feel like about my writing and music. I'm happy with most of it, but not all of it. Ask them why I erase: 'He had to take it down because it's ours!' Always some fucking false accusation to explain a perfectly innocent act. Why did I erase everything in '07? Because it wasn't recorded well enough in my opinion. I wanted to improve the sound quality. Why did I erase my song, Careful (Hopeful)? Because I find it too slow and depressing. Did anyone ask me why I erased it? Here's part of an erased blog from 2011: When you cast evil spirits from a plant, keep your distance or it will reach out with its vines and choke you. I erased it because I didn't want to mock the power of the Lord. But someone else who fancies himself a Christian might well have grabbed it and used it to lie to a Christian crowd by now. I wanted my online work to be a lighthearted diversion and the grim details of my personal life interfere with that, so I often erase such details. I don't want to write about smut and crime, but I've learned that if I don't at least talk about the ones who've been destroying my name and what they've been up to, they'll be allowed to dance all over my head. You can blame those 'forgiving' souls who pay their salaries for that. I would advise other online artists to never erase their work, no matter how much pressure you may be under to do so. The pressure is likely coming from stupid assholes who want you to delete it so they can have it - for a while. As for me, I won't be erasing anything I share any more. And if you made a strong point in your writing, no matter how unpleasant it may look to you, leave it up, or your enemies will be telling the world you had to take it down because you were wrong. |
